Men's And Women's Track Do Well At Home

MOUNT PLEASANT -- With only one week before the Mid-American Confernce championship meet, the men's and women's track squad made their final adjustments at the Jack Skoog Open inside the Indoor Athletic Complex on Friday evening.
Both head coaches used the meet as a chance to get some people rested and give the younger athletes some experience before the indoor finally at Kent State next weekend.
Highlighting the evening for the men's team was the mile run performances turned in by Ron Miller (4:08.23), Jacob Crowe (4:09), Jake Flynn (4:10.09), and Luke Humphrey (4:10.82). All turned in the best times of their careers and Miller set the best time for a Chippewa this season.
The best individual performance on the men's side was Pat Walderzak's NCAA provisional-qualifying mark in the shot put. He took first place with a throw of 58-3 3/4.
The men finished with seven first-place finishes in all.
The women's night was led by a couple of freshmen performances. Tamera Thomas crossed the finish line in first place in the 60m hurdles for the first time in her career. She followed that up with a second-place finish in the long jump.
Freshmen Leslie Johnson and Jackie Smart each grabbed a first-place finish. Johnson in the 400m and Smart in the triple jump.
Amanda Storck continued her success in the pole vault, taking first for the third time this season. The Chippewas 4x400m relay took the top spot while Kelli Kirchofer rounded out the firsts for the Chippewas, she grabbed the top spot in the high jump.
