MOUNT PLEASANT -- Central Michigan University fell to its sixth consecutive women's basketball loss here Saturday afternoon to Marshall University, 73-56, in Mid-American Conference action.
The Chippewas are now 4-13 for the season and 0-6 in MAC games while the Thundering Herd are 11-6 overall and 3-3 in loop play.
Marshall rolled to a 39-27 halftime lead and was never really in jeopardy of losing the lead. CMU did cut it to nine, 58-49, with 7:18 remaining and had the ball but could not score. The visitors then ripped off seven straight points and never looked back.
Poor shooting once again plagued the Chippewas as they shot 38 percent from the field on 19-of-50 compared to 54.4 percent for the Thundering Herd on 31-of-57. Marshall also held a 36-26 edge in rebounding.
Amanda Elwer led CMU with 13 points while Morgan Wills and Casey Manning added 12 apiece. Manning grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and Ann Skufca snagged seven.
Game-high honors went to Marshall's Sikeeta Shepard-Hall with 24 points. Catie Knable added 13 and KaShawna Curry 10 for the visitors.
The Chippewas are home again on Wednesday night when Western Michigan comes to Rose Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
