Takach Notches Hat Trick in Field Hockey Loss

ANN ARBOR - Erica Takach had a career day for the Central Michigan field hockey team, but it wasn't enough as CMU fell short in a 4-3 loss to No. 14 California in Ann Arbor.
Takach notched her first career hat trick by scoring all three CMU goals. She had all six of CMU's shots in the match.
The Chippewas are now 7-9 this season while Cal improves to 13-4. The Chippewas wrap up their regular season schedule with a pair of home matches next weekend. CMU hosts Ohio on Friday at 3 p.m., and Kent State on Saturday at noon.
The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead just over six minutes into the match. CMU's defense tighten the rest of the half to keep the score a 2-0 Cal lead.
The Chippewas fought back to tie the match 14 minutes into the second-half with a pair of goals from Takach. Her first goal came in the 39th minute and was unassisted. She than knotted the score at two in the 49th minute off a CMU penalty corner. The goal was assisted by Stasia Burroughs, her team-high eighth, and Michelle Fogle.
Cal retook the lead in the 61st minute with a goal by Amber Madsen, her second of the contest. The Bears added an insurance goal four minutes later before Takach capped the scoring with a goal in the 68th minute.
CMU goalkeeper Danielle Frank made nine saves in the match with Cal keeper Kelly Knapp making one.
The Bears out shot CMU, 30-6, and held a 11-4 advantage in penalty corners.
NOTES: CMU goalkeeper Danielle Frank was named the MAC "Defensive Player of the Week" today for her play last weekend.
Frank allowed only a single goal and made seven saves in CMU's 2-1 victory over Ball State. In CMU's 2-0 loss to Indiana, both the goals allowed came on penalty strokes with Frank making 11 saves to keep CMU close.
