Field Hockey Falls At No. 3 Michigan State

EAST LANSING - The Central Michigan University field hockey team fell at No. 3 Michigan State on Tuesday afternoon, 8-2.
CMU falls to 4-5 this season while the Spartans improve to 12-1.
Michigan State put the Chippewas in an early hole with two goals in the first 1:38 of the match. The first goal came from Annebet Beerman, her first of two goals, and the second was by Veerle Goudswaard, the first of four goals for her.
CMU pulled within one in the eighth minute when Stasia Burroughs recorded her first career goal on a breakaway. Unfortunately, CMU would get no closer as the Spartans would control the rest of the first half, adding three more goals to lead 5-1 at halftime.
MSU added on to its lead two minutes in the second period with a goal by Goudswaard. The score stay that way into the 55th minute when Katie Lincoln scored of a rebound to make the score 6-2. It is Lincoln's first goal at CMU on the first shot of her Chippewa career. MSU would add two late goals to make the final score, 8-2.
The Spartans out shot CMU, 24-9, while the Chippewas earned more corners, 9-8.
CMU used a pair of goalkeepers. Sarah Mancuso got the start and made 11 saves in the losing effort. Danielle Frank relieved her in the 42nd minute with Frank making one save. Michigan State goalkeeper Christina Kirkaldy made five saves in the victory.
CMU continues its current seven-match road trip this weekend with a pair of Mid-American Conference matches. The Chippewas battle Ohio on Friday at 3 p.m., and then travel to Kent State for a match on Saturday at 1 p.m.
