MOUNT PLEASANT - Senior Lisa Taube entered her final regular season home match for the Central Michigan University soccer team having done many things during her time as a Chippewa.
Scoring a goal was not one of them.
But, seventeen minutes into the 4-0 victory over Akron, CMU's lone senior celebrated her special day with her first career goal. She scored off a direct free kick from 35 yards out to give the Chippewas the only goal they would need.
"Scoring my first career goal was a great way to celebrate senior day especially with my family here to help celebrate it with me," said Taube. "Being a defender, us notching our fifth-straight shutout made the day extra special. I have a great bunch of teammates who have made this season very special for me.
"We still have a long ways to go before we reach our goals and a couple tough matches next weekend, so it is important we stay focused on the future, not our past accomplishments."
The Chippewas improve to 5-1-2 in the Mid-American Conference, 7-3-2 overall. CMU finished its five-match MAC home schedule undefeated, 4-0-1, never allowing a goal in any match.
This is the first time in CMU's history it has gone unbeaten at home in the MAC and the longest shutout streak in school history. The streak is now five matches and 512 minutes.
Sophomore goalkeeper Anne Decker earned the win and her sixth shutout of the season, tying the mark she set her freshman year. She made two saves in the match.
Adding insurance goals for CMU in the match were Jacquie Lacek and Rachel Snyder. The first goal by Lacek was in the 29th minute when she headed in a crossing pass from Laura Roberts. Lacek scored her second goal five minutes later when her corner kick deflected off an Akron player into the net.
The final goal came by Snyder off a free kick from Decker. Snyder received the ball at the edge of the penalty box and beat the goalkeeper top shelf for her fourth goal of the season. It was Decker's first career point while at CMU.
The Chippewas dominated the contest, out shooting the Zips, 17-4. CMU did not allow a shot in the first half and only two Akron shots went on-goal.
With the home portion of their schedule completed, the Chippewas head to Ohio University for its next match. CMU plays the Bobcats next Friday at 3 p.m.
