Detroit goalkeeper Alisson Dube stole the show Sunday making 12 saves, including four in the final minute, to give the Titans a 2-1 victory over the Central Michigan University soccer team.
The match was the final contest in the CMU Invitational with Ball State defeating DePaul in the first match of the day, 2-1. The Chippewas lost both their contests during the invitational to begin the season 0-2, while Detroit improves to 1-1.
The Titans got on the board first with a goal in the 34th minute by Mary Parker with an assist from Mandi Jasky. CMU would tie the score in the 72nd minute with a goal by Jacquie Lacek. Lacek tipped in a pass from Alison Heydorn for her first goal of the season.
Detroit answered 14 minutes later when Parker notched her second score of the match to put the Titans up for good. Parker put in a rebound from CMU goalkeeper Anne Decker off a shot by Shelly Piccirillo, who got an assist on the goal.
The Chippewas statistically dominated the game, out shooting Detroit, 25-6, and earning eight corners compared to three by the Titans.
Lacek and Heydorn both had seven shots, six on goal for Heydorn and four for Lacek. Decker made one save in net for CMU.
In the first match, Lindsay Wiltshire led Ball State to victory by scoring both Cardinal goals in the 2-1 victory over DePaul.
DePaul got on the board first with a goal by Jennifer Dyer. Wiltshire tied the match at one with her first goal in the 52nd minute, and then scored six minutes later to put BSU ahead for good. Dee Nocero assisted on both goals.
CMU returns to action on September 3 when it plays Marquette in the first of two matches during the Oakland Holiday Inn Select Classic. The match is set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
