OAKLAND - Head coach Tony DiTucci needed only one word to describe the Central Michigan University soccer team's 3-0 loss to Marquette on Friday.
"Inconsistent," said DiTucci. "We are having tough time putting together a complete game and it is during the mental lapses that we are giving up goals and not capitalizing on opportunities. The potential is there, but this match is perfect example of what happens when you play inconsistently. Marquette took advantage of our mistakes and that was the difference."
The Chippewas fall to 0-3 on the season. The match was played at Oakland University as a part of the Oakland Holiday Inn Select Classic.
The Golden Eagles scored their first goal in the 20th minute. Maureen Kole scored the goal with an assist going to Meghan Connelly. Connelly notched a goal of her own one minute later with an assist from Michelle Martin. The final Marquette goal came in the 61st minute, this time by Christy Zwolski.
Marquette goalkeeper Katie Bissen made five saves for her second-straight shut out.
Jessie Jandasek was the lone CMU player to get multiple shots on goal with two, while keeper Anne Decker made five saves.
"The score many not indicate it, but I thought Anne Decker played a great match today," said DiTucci. "She played with the type of fight, leadership and mental toughness I am looking for. Her performance showed me a lot today and, hopefully, it continues in the future."
CMU plays its second contest in the OU tournament on Sunday. The Chippewas battle Illinois State at 11:30 a.m.
