Soccer's 3-1 Victory Includes Multiple Milestones

ROCHESTER - Sunday's match with Illinois State included many firsts for the Central Michigan University soccer team with the most important thing being its first victory of the season by the score of 3-1.
The Chippewas improve to 1-3 with the win and finished the Oakland Holiday Inn Select Classic 1-1 after a loss to Marquette on Friday.
Another important first was head coach Tony DiTucci notching his first victory. DiTucci took over last summer, his first head job after working at CMU as an assistant for two seasons.
Rachel Snyder had a career match, scoring two goals including the match winner. Snyder got CMU on the board in the 10th minute with a rocket of a shot that deflected off the head of a Illinois State player and into the goal. The opportunity was created by Alison Heydorn, who found Snyder off a corner kick. It was CMU's first lead of the season.
Synder's second goal increased that lead in the 26th minute. She received a pass from Jacquie Lacek off a free kick and blasted a shot into the upper corner of the net. The goals are Snyder's first of the season and the first time she recorded a multi-goal outing while playing for CMU.
The Chippewas final goal came from Laura Roberts in the 38th minute. Roberts scooped up a free kick that deflected off an mutliple ISU defenders and shot top self for the goal. It is the sophomore's first goal as a Chippewa.
The Cardinals made a charge late in the first half with a goal in the final minute from Jaclyn Rucinsky. Illinois State continued to press though out the second half but a solid performance from CMU goalkeeper Anne Decker and the team's defense locked up the victory. Decker made seven saves, with six being in the second half.
The Chippewas return to action with a pair of matches in Indiana next weekend. CMU plays IPFW on Friday, Sept. 10, beginning at 7 p.m. It then kicks off the Mid-American Conference season with a match at Ball State on Sunday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m.
