MOUNT PLEASANT - A breakout performance by true freshman Angel Chan led the Central Michigan University women's basketball team to a resounding road victory at Michigan on Wednesday night, 79-57.
"Our goal every time we hit the court is to play hard and give it everything we have," head coach Eileen Kleinfelter said. "We did that tonight and it led us to a great victory. Our experience played a big part in the victory because every time we made a mistake or they had a good play, we answered right back with a great play of our own."
Chan poured in a career-high 19 points to help CMU improve to 4-0 for the first time since 1991. The Wyoming Park, Michigan native was 6-for-8 from the floor including 3-for-3 from three-point range. She was also perfect from the line (4-of-4) and had three steals. Her previous career-high was seven in the season opener.
"Angel played with so much confidence tonight and everything seemed to click for her," Kleinfelter said. "She got in a zone and was lights out from there. We are such a balanced team that any player can step up big and help us win a game, and Angel certainly did that tonight."
Chan wasn't the only CMU player who was hot on the offensive end as four other Chippewas scored in double-digits. Sharonda Hurd tallied 16 points while Chasidy Myer and Ann Skufca added 13 and Casey Manning had 10.
All four also contributed in other areas with Manning and Skufca both pulling down a game-high nine rebounds while Myers had five boards. Manning also had six assists with Erin Kuhl and Stacey Verhoff adding four.
Overall the Chippewas were an even .500 (29-of-58) from the field and went 7-for-11 (.636) from behind the arc. CMU also had 17 assists on the offensive end and was 14-for-20 at the free throw line.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair with CMU holding a two-point lead at the half, 36-34. The Chippewas took control of the game with a 9-0 run to begin the second half for an 11-point lead four minutes into the half.
CMU continued to build on the run as its lead never slipped below nine points the rest of the game. The Maroon and Gold put the contest out of reach with an 8-0 run midway through the half which gave CMU a 68-49 lead with 3:35 to play.
The Chippewas take a short break before heading to Cleveland State for a game on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
