No. 9 Wrestling Beats Buffalo, 30-9

MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan University wrestling team continued its domination of the conference with a 30-9 victory over the University at Buffalo on Saturday night in Rose Arena.
The Chippewas won eight of the nine contested matches to move to 12-4 overall, 3-0 in the Mid-American Conference. CMU forfeit 133 due to injury, giving Buffalo six of its nine team points. Buffalo is now 1-9, 0-3 in the MAC.
CMU was led by No. 7 David Bolyard with a fall over Jake Blowers at 5:56. With the match victory, Bolyard has earned 100 career wins and 16 career falls.
CMU started strong by winning the first three matches of the dual. Starting the dual off for CMU was No. 17 Eric Neil, at 157. Neil won a tough match, 12-8, over Bull Scott Rendos, but got off to a great start with two takedowns at the 0:08 mark. At 165, Bolyard was leading 21-4 in the match prior to pinning Blowers. After Bolyard's fall, the 174-pounder Mitch Hancock, ranked seventh, won 3-1 over Mickey Moran.
Buffalo's Garrett Hicks pulled off the only victory of the night, an upset over 184-pounder Alex Lammers, ranked 16th.
The 11th-ranked Wynn Michalak continued to impress this season by placing a shutout and technical fall over Harold Sherell with a score of 16-0. In the victory, Michalak used 11 nearfall points, two takedowns, and a stalling point. The Chippewas recorded back-to-back shutouts with heavyweight Bill Stouffer's 4-0 defeat of Buffalo's Jeff Parker.
The marquee matchup of the night at 125 featured CMU's No. 16 Luke Smith against No. 20 Mark McKnight. Smith pulled off a close 4-2 victory against McKnight with a 5-count nearfall in the third period.
After the CMU forfeit at 133, the Chippewas closed out the dual with two match wins. The 141-pounder Brandon Carter solidly beat Dana Gingerich, 11-5, with four takedowns. The final match of the evening concluded with No. 10 Mark DiSalvo's 14-5 major decision against Patrick Lloyd.
The Chippewas return to action next weekend with two duals against the University of North Carolina and The Citadel in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. CMU will face UNC at noon and The Citadel at 2 p.m.
