ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Sophomore Maude Stalars scored in the ninth minute Sunday as the Central Michigan field hockey team downed Saint Louis, 1-0, in a non-conference game at the Bilikens' Soccer Park.
It was the fifth victory in six starts for CMU (6-9) and it completed a perfect weekend trip to the state of Missouri. On Friday, the Chippewas defeated Missouri State, 3-2, to improve to 4-0 in the Mid-American Conference.
The Chippewas play host to Ohio (3-8, 2-2 MAC) on Saturday, Oct. 25, in a MAC game at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
"Next week is going to be a tough game against Ohio," CMU coach Cristy Freese said. "We need to keep cleaning up on certain things and come out focused."
Stalars' goal, her first of the season, came just 8 minutes, 26 seconds in to Sunday's contest. She took a pass from senior Cayleigh Immelman off a penalty corner.
The teams finished 11-11 in shots and Saint Louis (2-14) held a 6-5 advantage in penalty corners. Six of the Chippewas' shots were on goal.
"We had plenty of opportunities throughout the game," Freese said. "I thought we had control of most of the game."
Junior goalkeeper Sadie Reynolds made four saves in recording her fifth career shutout for the Chippewas.
