Gymnastics Beats Western Michigan on Senior Day

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – No. 18 Central Michigan gymnastics wrapped up the regular season with a dominating win over rival Western Michigan, 196.175-194.350.
Halle Moraw and Taylor Bolender led CMU with a pair of event wins as both tied for first on floor with Bolender winning bars and Moraw taking beam. Kylie Fagan also shared the bars title.
The Chippewas finished the regular season 15-3 overall, 5-1 in the Mid-American Conference. They recognized their two seniors, Emily Heinz and Brittany Petzold, after today’s meet.
Central Michigan began the day on vault with Kirsten Petzold and Moraw leading the way with a 9.850, good for second. WMU’s Jessi Buis won the meet with a 9.875. Kirstin Stambaugh and Heinz also had solid days with a 9.825, good for a fourth-place finish. The Chippewas finished the rotation with a 49.125 to give them a 0.825 lead over the Broncos, who had a 48.300 on bars.
Fagan and Bolender anchored the Maroon and Gold as they tied WMU’s Shelby MacDonald for first as all three scored a 9.850. CMU’s Becca Druien finished fourth with a 9.750. CMU scored a 48.550 on the event while Western Michigan had a season-best 49.000 on vault, cutting CMU’s lead down to just 0.375, 97.675-97.300
A strong rotation on beam helped the Chippewas take control of the meet as CMU posted a 49.200, their second-best score of the season. Moraw set her career-high with a 9.875 to win the event. Fagan was right behind her with a season-best 9.850 while a trio of Chippewas tied for third with a 9.825. WMU had a 48.575 on floor, giving CMU a 146.875-145.875 lead going into the final rotation.
Moraw and Bolender both scored 9.900 to help Central Michigan wrap up the win. CMU dominated the event, tallying five of the top six scores, as the squad tallied at 49.300. Preslee Harrald took third with a 9.875 and Druien finished fourth (9.825). The Broncos tallied a 48.525 on beam to finish the meet.
The Chippewas travel to Eastern Michigan next Saturday, March 22, for the MAC Championships. The meet will be in the EMU Convocation Center and will begin at 2 p.m.
