BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Three members of the Central Michigan University gymnastics team got the chance to do something on Friday that no CMU gymnast has done since 2004: compete at the NCAA National Championships.
Emily Heinz, Halle Moraw and Taylor Noonan competed on beam in the second session of the NCAA Championship semifinals on Friday evening in Birmingham, Ala.
Moraw was the top performer with a 9.850, good for a 13th-place finish in the session and 23rd overall. Her session finish is the second-best ever by a CMU gymnast behind Kara Reighard's 11th-place finish on beam in 2003. Noonan posted a 9.725, taking 32nd, and Heinz had a 9.575.
All three qualified for nationals by tying for first at regionals, joining just three other Chippewas who have won a regional title.
