Seniors Emily Heinz and Brittany Petzold along with juniors Kylie Fagan, Halle Moraw and Taylor Noonan were named to the 18-member squad.
“It is very honoring to have five individuals make it,” said Jerry Reighard, who has had 23 student-athletes earn first-team Academic All-MAC honors, several of them multiple times, in his long tenure as the Chippewas coach. “I think that speaks volumes about our program and our athletes and the direction that they’re taking in their academics of our program.”
The Chippewas had the more student-athletes named to the squad than any other institution.
It is the third consecutive year that Petzold, a Heath Fitness major who carries a 3.77 grade point average, has been named to the first team.
Moraw, Heinz, Noonan and Fagan earned first team Academic All-MAC honors last season.
The Chippewas captured their record fifth consecutive MAC title in 2014, and sent three student-athletes to the NCAA Championships.
“In our recruiting process, we pay very close attention to our potential recruits and their academic success in high school,” Reighard said. “When you have a very smart athletes, they’re much easier to coach. They pick up on what your plan is and are able to execute it.”
