MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan Women's Basketball team is hitting the road for a five-day getaway, during which it will play three exhibition games.
The team left Friday morning for Toronto and plans to return to campus on Tuesday, Aug. 11. The Chippewas are scheduled to play three games against Canadian teams.
CMU graduated the bulk of its starters, the core of the team from the previous few years, including the likes of Crystal Bradford, who in April was taken by the Los Angeles Sparks with the seventh pick in the WNBA draft.
Needless to say, the Chippewas have plenty to replace and plenty of team building to do as they look ahead to 2015-16.
"I'm looking to get this young team in a uniform and play in front of their parents and some fans, I'm looking for combinations", said coach Sue Guevara, who is entering her ninth year in charge of the Chippewa program.
"It's time to see how far we've progressed," Guevara added. "I know what I have seen in practice, we played against our alums (earlier this week) and I was pleasantly pleased with what I saw.
"I understand alumni aren't in shape, but the best thing was our ability of how we got up and down and I thought we shot the ball really well."
Apart from the three games the Chippewas also plan to tour Toronto with visits to Ripley's Aquarium and the CN Tower along with a wheelchair basketball game between USA and Peru highlighting the agenda.
"It's a chance for us to get away and just kind of bond as a team and some other fun stuff," Guevara said. "I think it will be a good experience for us."
