BUFFALO, N.Y. — Frustration in all facets of the game was the overall takeaway from Central Michigan women's basketball coach Sue Guevara following her team's 67-61 Mid-American conference loss to Buffalo on Wednesday night.
The Chippewas shot just 34 percent from the field and 21 percent from 3-point range, and was outrebounded by the Bulls, 51-45, in slipping to 7-6 overall, 1-1 in the MAC. Buffalo is 9-4, 1-1.
"I thought Buffalo was a lot tougher than we were," Guevara said. "I think they got the 50-50 balls, they were wrestling balls away from us and I thought we played soft and that's probably the most disappointing thing."
CMU gave up 16 second-chance points to Buffalo, and did not get a single point from its bench.
"It's extremely disappointing be outscored 29-0 in bench points," Guevara said. "We're only going to be as strong as our bench and our bench was not very good.
"I can't have the starters play for 40 minutes. We have to have players that come in and make a difference."
Turnovers hindered any offensive rhythm for the Chippewas, who committed 16 to Buffalo's 12.
Freshman guard Presley Hudson led CMU, going 7-for-13 from the field for 21 points. She also had a team-high seven assists.
Da'Jourie Turner added 12 points for the Chippewas, and Tinara Moore posted her second-straight double-double with 10 points and a team-high 15 rebounds.
Reyna Frost went 4-8 scoring nine points and added 11 rebounds for CMU.
Joanna Smith led Buffalo with 21 points and Brittany Morrison had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Chippewas led just one, in the game's opening minute, and Buffalo seized a 35-26 halftime lead. The Chippewas trailed by 11 early in the fourth quarter, then whittled their deficit to two, 63-61, on a Moore layup with 13 seconds to play.
Stephanie Reid hit two free throws with 12 seconds remaining to Buffalo up by four, 65-61, and Hudson's 3-point attempt with 9 seconds left missed.
The Chippewas will head to Akron on Saturday (2 p.m.) for a MAC game with the Zips, 7-6, 1-1, who defeated Eastern Michigan, 68-65, on Wednesday.
