MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan field hockey team lost its fifth straight Mid-American Conference match, 5-1, to Longwood at the Central Michigan Field Hockey Complex on Saturday.
The Chippewas (1-15 overall, 0-5 MAC) failed to get their offense going early, as they were held to just one shot in the first half. Longwood (8-8, 2-3) was able to take advantage with three first-half goals.
"I liked the way we finished the game from a mentality standpoint," CMU coach Molly Pelowski said. "I think we were being aggressive on our press, we were being physical through the center of the field and we were taking some more risks from an attacking standpoint. So I'm happy with the way we finished, not happy with the way we started."
The Lancers outshot the Chippewas, 17-6, and held a 5-2 edge in penalty corners.
Carley Brengosz scored and Emily Barber picked up an assist for the Chippewas.
Central goalkeepers Lily Amadio and Abigail Ebersole split time in net, each recording three saves.
Longwood's Edel Nyland scored two goals.
The Chippewas will take on No. 10-ranked Northwestern (10-6) on Senior Day, Sunday, at noon.
