MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — The Central Michigan women's basketball team saw its season come to an end Thursday in falling to Indiana-Purdue-Indianapolis, 63-55, in the opening round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament at McGuirk Arena.
The Chippewas conclude the season with a 22-11 record to go along with a Mid-American Conference West Division title.
Coming off a painful overtime loss to Buffalo in the MAC Tournament championship game last week, CMU didn't have the same intensity level.
"It was just a very disappointing loss tonight," CMU coach Sue Guevara said. "I told the team after the game that I was more disappointed today than I was a week ago when we lost the championship game.
"Unfortunately this is kind of what you remember instead of everything that led up to it."
The Chippewas shot just 30.5 percent from the field in the game and 20.8 percent (5-of-24) from 3-point range.
"It's tough to win a game when you can't score," Guevara said. "We couldn't put the ball in the hole from the perimeter. When you don't score you have to defend and we had a couple breakdowns."
Tinara Moore led CMU with 15 point to go along with nine rebounds. Reyna Frost finished with a double-double, tallying 12 points and 11 boards.
Akilah Sims paced the Jaguars with 24 points. Mikale Rodgers and Martha Burse had eight rebound apiece.
With the season officially over Guevara plans to give her team some time to regroup before reflecting on the season
"The kids get three weeks of," Guevara said. "They need to rest up and heal and take care of other things besides basketball.
"That's the hard part right now, you have to look at the entire season and the body of work. This team worked very hard and put in all the time, you just wish it would have ended different than it did today."
