ATHENS, Ohio - Maria Russell scored 3 minutes, 46 seconds into overtime Friday as Ohio handed Central Michigan a 4-3 Mid-American Conference loss at the Bobcats' Pruitt Field.
The Chippewas slipped to 1-9 overall, 0-2 MAC. They play at Kent State on Sunday (noon) in a MAC game. The defending MAC Touranment champion Golden Flashes are 6-5, 2-0.
The three goals were a season-high for the Chippewas, who forced the overtime when Haley Bova scored with just 2:23 remaining in regulation to tie it 3-3. It was Bova's first goal of the season.
Grace Forthaus and Georgina Minta also scored for CMU. Catherine Schneider and Alex Gonda each had an assist. It was Forhaus' second goal of the season, and the first as a Chippewa for Minta, a freshman.
CMU goalkeeper Lily Amadio made five saves. Ohio held a 17-14 edge in shots and a 12-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Russell's game-winning goal came off a deflected corner. Ohio goalkeeper Alex Pennington made eight saves. The Bobcats improved to 4-6, 1-0.
