CMU Women Close Nonconference Slate At Home

SETTING THE SCENE
The Central Michigan women's basketball team will entertain Quinnipiac in a nonconference game on Thursday (7 p.m.) at McGuirk Arena. It is the final nonleaguer for CMU, which opens Mid-American Conference play at Ball State on Saturday, Dec. 30 (2 p.m.). The Cardinals are 10-0 and play host to Western Kentucky in their final nonconference game on Thursday.
LAST TIME OUT
The Chippewas (8-2) saw their win streak end at eight games with a 64-61 loss on Sunday at Duquesne. The win lifted Duquesne to 10-2.
RANKINGS
The Chippewas are 10th in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25. Quinnipiac (5-5) is 17th.
THE CHIPPEWAS
• Are scoring 83.7 points per game, which is second in the MAC and 22nd among the 351 NCAA Division I teams.
• Lead the MAC and rank fourth nationally in 3-pointers per game (10.7), and are second in the MAC and eighth in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage (41.2). The Chippewas have made 107 triples in their 10 games, which leads the league and is 10th in the nation.
• Lead the MAC and rank second nationally in free throw percentage (84.7).
• Individually, junior guard Presley Hudson is averaging 19.8 points per game, which is second in the MAC and 39th in the nation. Junior forward Reyna Frost is third in the nation at 13.5 rebounds per game, and seventh with 5.0 offensive boards per game.
SCOUTING
Quinnipiac dropped a 74-55 decision at Michigan State on Monday. It was the Bobcats' second consecutive loss. They had won five straight after opening the season with losses to Ohio State, Missouri and Iowa, all three of whom are ranked this week in the Associated Press Top 25.
Sarah Shewan, a 6-foot-2 senior, and Aryn McClure, a 5-11 junior, lead the Bobcats in scoring at 13.3 and 10.1 points per game, respectively. Jen Fay, a 6-foot junior, is the top rebounder at 8.2 per. The Bobcats average 62.1 points per game and are surrendering an average of 65.2 per.
A year ago, Quinnipiac finished 29-7 and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, where it bowed to eventual champion South Carolina. The Bobcats are the defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament champions.
