SETTING THE SCENE
• The CMU gymnastics team returns to Mid-American Conference competition on Sunday at Ball State.
• The Chippewas are coming off a nonconference victory over Illinois State, during which they equaled their season-high with a 194.950 score.
FAST START, FAST FINISH
• The Chippewas opened the meet with Illinois State with a 48.975 score on vault and closed with a 49.475 on floor exercise. Both numbers were season-highs.
• The 49.475 on floor was just .150 shy of the program record 49.675.
• The Chippewas won all four events against Illinois State. Katy Clements won vault (9.825), Bryttany Kaplan won parallel bars (9.900), Shaila Segal won balance beam (9.775) and Clements, Denelle Pedrick and Macy Hilliker tied for first on floor (9.925).
RANKINGS
• The Chippewas are tied for 38th (with Towson) in the NCAA team rankings this week. They are the third Mid-American Conference team in the rankings. Eastern Michigan is 30th and Kent State is 34th.
• The Chippewas go to Kent State on Sunday, Feb. 19 for a MAC dual.
• CMU fell to Eastern, 195.925-194.650, on Jan. 20 at McGuirk Arena.
• National event rankings: CMU, 44th vault; 47th bars; 38th beam; 19th floor; Ball State is ranked 36th nationally. Ball State event rankings: 28th vault; 36th bars; 50th beam; 36th floor.
• Ball State's season-high score is the same as CMU's, 194.950, which came in a nonconference dual at William & Mary on Jan. 20.
