MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Shannon Doyle scored five goals and Jocelyne Lemay had four on Tuesday as the Central Michigan women's lacrosse team snapped a four-game losing streak with an 18-6 nonconference win over Gardner-Webb at the CMU Lacrosse-Soccer Stadium.
The win lifted CMU to 2-4. Gardner-Webb is 0-8. The Chippewas play their final nonconference game on Thursday at Butler (1-6), and then entertain Mercer in their Atlantic SUN opener on Friday, March 24.
The Chippewas outshot Gardner-Webb, 41-12, in bouncing back from a 15-4 loss to Cincinnati on Sunday. The Chippewas jumped to a 9-0 lead and led at halftime, 11-2.
"Our goal was to execute today and to clean things up," CMU coach Sara Tisdale said. "I think Sunday we played scared, we played tentative, we played hesitant and I think today you saw players that weren't afraid to go to the cage. Hopefully we can translate that into ASUN play coming up."
Emily Kraus added three goals and two assists for the Chippewas, while Natalie Karlen and Tyra Prince had two apiece. Riley Huda collected five assists and Jessica Schuchardt had three.
Dominique Hamman started in goal for the Chippewas and made three saves over 30 minutes for the win. Hope Murray and Clare Laughery split time in goal in the second half for CMU.
"It was nice to get everybody some playing time," Tisdale said. "We've had players who have been working hard in practice for us and in games where our offense does the job and allows us to get a lead, it allows us to get some of our inexperienced players to get experience and that's really nice to see, especially on the goalie front."
Anna Schoonover and Emma Hamilton also scored for CMU, while Lemay and Prince each added an assist.
