OXFORD, Ohio - Tinara Moore scored 24 points on Saturday as the Central Michigan women's basketball team posted an 84-66 Mid-American Conference victory over Miami (Ohio) at the RedHawks' Millett Hall.
CMU remains unbeaten in the league as it improved to 11-3, 3-0 MAC. Miami is 9-5, 1-2. The Chippewas are scheduled to return to McGuirk Arena to play host to Bowling Green on Wednesday (7 p.m.). The Falcons are 8-6, 0-3.
The Chippewas are the lone unbeaten team in MAC play.
"I like it because two of our wins have been on the road," CMU coach Sue Guevara said. "It's good to start how we have and be able to come away with these wins.
"Right now, we're a nice team, but we haven't even hit the tip of the iceberg. When we get going with the bench and play with more confidence, I think we can be even better."
Reyna Frost recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 21 points and 13 rebounds for CMU. The junior forward was two points shy of her season-high and it was her third straight double-double. She also made all five free throw attempts, and seven of her rebounds came on the offensive end.
"(Frost) gives us a lot of confidence," said Guevara. "Her ability to get stops and rebound the ball alive is great. She takes advantage of the double team (Moore) gets and is able to get us more possessions."
Multiple other Chippewas filled the stats sheet on Saturday. Presley Hudson scored 18 points, dished out a season-high eight assists, and made four steals; freshman Kyra Bussell recorded eight points while also grabbing seven rebounds, tying her career-high.
"Bussell was good today," Guevara said. "To be able to perform like that and get consistency is great. She's physical and she's confidence."
The Chippewas made 50 percent (32 of 64) of their field goal attempts including a 7-for-17 clip from 3-point range (41.2 percent). They outrebounded the RedHawks, 42-30.
A Hudson 3-pointer with 5:35 to play in the first quarter put the Chippewas up for good, 13-11. Hudson's triple ignited a 17-4 run, after which CMU led by 12, 27-15, as the first quarter ended.
CMU stretched its lead to as many as 24 points and Miami never got closer than nine the rest of the way.
Kendall McCoy had a team-high 18 points for the RedHawks.
