Â
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Samantha Glapinski drew Central Michigan to within a goal when she scored with under five minutes to play on Sunday, but the Chippewas could not get the equalizer in falling to Davidson, 2-1, in a non-conference match at the Wildcats' Carol Grotnes Belk Turf Field.
Â
The Chippewas are 1-15 and will play host to Ball State in their regular-season finale on Friday, Oct. 19 (3 p.m.). Davidson improved to 5-8.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kristen Kisa and Sydney McKenna scored in the first 17:24 of the game to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.
Â
Glapinski's goal, which came at the 65:05 mark, was her team-leading third of the season.
Â
The Chippewas pulled goalie Lily Amadio late in the second half for an extra attacker and had an opportunity to tie the game with just over a minute left, but could not capitalize.
Â
"We had an opportunity up (in opposing territory) in the last couple of seconds in the game," CMU coach Catherine Ostoich said. "We couldn't get a penalty corner and we couldn't get any shots. So, we were there, in enemy territory; we just couldn't take advantage of the opportunity."
CMU finished the game with eight shots and four penalty corners. The Wildcats posted 11 shots and 11 penalty corners.
Â
OSTOICH
"It was a hard-fought game. I thought we did some really good things and had some really good moments. However, we had some moments of letdown. I think we came out a little slow in the beginning to let them get on the board quickly. We bounced back quickly after that and played a much better second half."
