Chippewa Field Hockey Falls At Davidson

CMU entertains Ball State on Friday in regular-season finale

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Samantha Glapinski drew Central Michigan to within a goal when she scored with under five minutes to play on Sunday, but the Chippewas could not get the equalizer in falling to Davidson, 2-1, in a non-conference match at the Wildcats' Carol Grotnes Belk Turf Field.

The Chippewas are 1-15 and will play host to Ball State in their regular-season finale on Friday, Oct. 19 (3 p.m.). Davidson improved to 5-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Kristen Kisa and Sydney McKenna scored in the first 17:24 of the game to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

Glapinski's goal, which came at the 65:05 mark, was her team-leading third of the season.

The Chippewas pulled goalie Lily Amadio late in the second half for an extra attacker and had an opportunity to tie the game with just over a minute left, but could not capitalize.

"We had an opportunity up (in opposing territory) in the last couple of seconds in the game," CMU coach Catherine Ostoich said. "We couldn't get a penalty corner and we couldn't get any shots. So, we were there, in enemy territory; we just couldn't take advantage of the opportunity."
CMU finished the game with eight shots and four penalty corners. The Wildcats posted 11 shots and 11 penalty corners.

"It was a hard-fought game. I thought we did some really good things and had some really good moments. However, we had some moments of letdown. I think we came out a little slow in the beginning to let them get on the board quickly. We bounced back quickly after that and played a much better second half."
