Revenge Win For CMU Women

Chippewas improve to 7-1 with victory at Quinnipiac
HAMDEN, Conn. – In the grand scheme of things, it was simply a nonconference road game in December.
But it felt like more than that, and it perhaps tastes a little sweeter than most.
Presley Hudson scored 25 points, Micaela Kelly had 16, and Reyna Frost added 13 on Sunday as the Central Michigan women's basketball team handed Quinnipiac a 67-52 loss on the Bobcats' home court, Peoples United Center.
It was CMU's sixth consecutive victory and it lifted it to 7-1. It also avenged an 84-70 loss that Quinnapiac handed the Chippewas in McGuirk Arena a year ago, when CMU finished 30-5 and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.
"I just want to give all the credit to our kids, because they battled," CMU coach Sue Guevara said. "I can't say enough for our players the way they gutted this game out. It was just a really good win for us on the road."
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chippewas led 35-30 at halftime, then outscored the Bobcats 15-7 in the third quarter for a 50-37 advantage. Quinnipiac never got closer than 10 points the rest of the way.
LEADERS
Frost had a game-high 11 rebounds in posting her sixth double-double of the season. Hudson's 25 points came on a 5-for-12 performance from 3-point territory. She also had seven assists.
QUALITY WIN
Quinnipiac, which last week was ranked 10th in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25, is 4-4. An NCAA Tournament mainstay, the Bobcats' other three losses this season have come to Bucknell, Texas and Missouri.
CMU is ranked fifth in the Mid-Major poll. The win over Quinnipiac was the Chippewas' third this season over a program that would be considered a top mid-majors (Western Kentucky and UCF are the others). The Chippewas also count a win over ACC member Virginia.
NEXT
The Chippewas are off for the better part of two weeks. They are scheduled to play at Vanderbilt in a nonconference game on Saturday, Dec. 15, and then are slated to return to McGuirk Area on Thursday, Dec. 20, to face fifth-ranked Louisville.
