SETTING THE SCENE
The Central Michigan gymnastics team will host Ball State at McGuirk Arena on Thursday (7 p.m.) for a Mid-American Conference meet.
AT STAKE
This meet will be an important one for the Chippewas, who are 7-7, 4-1 MAC. A win gives them the outright MAC regular-season title. Northern Illinois is 3-2 heading into its final MAC meet at Bowling Green on Saturday. If the Chippewas lose to Ball State and NIU wins, the teams would share first place. Ball State is 9-8, 3-3.
It is also CMU's final meet before the MAC Championships, which are scheduled for Saturday, March 24 (2 p.m.) at McGuirk Arena.
WHERE THEY STAND
CMU is ranked 34th nationally with a 195.200 average. The Chippewas are 27th on uneven bars, 34th on vault, 36th on floor exercise, and 40th on balance beam. The Chippewas' best score this season is a 196.375, which they posted in their season-opening dual at home against Illinois State.
LAST TIME OUT
The Chippewas placed third on Sunday in a nonconference dual at Ohio State with North Carolina State. CMU finished at 195.175.
SENIOR NIGHT
The Chippewas will honor five seniors -- Courtney Campbell, Katy Clements, Macey Hilliker, Bryttany Kaplan and Miranda Wieczorek - after Thursday's meet.
COACH Jerry Reighard
"It's a quick turnaround (from Sunday's meet). There's really no reason that we shouldn't have great competition ... That's the only thing that helps build our confidence; we just need to have a win under our belt, to make everyone comfortable in their environment and that's the plan."
"This is the most-dedicated senior class that I have had in some time. Each individual brings their own special skill set for helping to build the team. In addition, they have talents that have led this team to success in competition. I truly believe they they will each have a solid future in their respective careers."
