
Streak Snapper: Hankins Pitches Chippewas To Nightcap Win

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Griffin Lockwood-Powell had three hits and Tyler Hankins pitched eight strong innings on Saturday as the Central Michigan baseball team snapped a 15-game winless streak with a 7-3 win over Northwestern in the second game of a nonconference baseball game at Theunissen Stadium.
The Chippewas (3-15-1) dropped game one of the twinbill, 5-2. They entertain Lawrence Tech in a nonconference game on Monday (3:05 p.m.).
GAME 1
Northwestern built a 3-0 lead after two innings in taking the opener.
CMU, which out-hit the Wildcats, 8-5, got both of its runs in the ninth on RBI singles by Daniel Robinson and Zavier Warren.
CMU starter Dazon Cole (0-4) took the loss. He surrendered three runs (none earned) on three hits, walked four and struck out four. Tyler Brown, Logan Buczkowski and Jordan Patty each pitched in relief for the Chippewas.
Northwestern starter and winner Hank Christie (2-2) allowed four hits, walked two and struck one over six innings.
GAME 2
Hankins (1-2) struck out six and allowed six hits over eight innings for the win. The sophomore left-hander walked three.
The Chippewas led, 2-1, then broke the game open with a five-run eighth.
David Cole and Evan Kratt added two hits apiece to lead CMU's nine-hit attack. Cole drove in four runs, two of which came on an eighth-inning single.
Colton Bradley began the ninth for CMU, but gave way to Brandon Reed, who got two strikeouts and a popup to end the game.
