MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan field hockey team will play host to Longwood on Saturday, Sept. 15 (11 a.m.) in the Chippewas' Mid-American Conference opener at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
Â
THE RECORDS
CMU comes in 1-6 and Longwood is 4-1. The Chippewas are coming off an 8-0 loss to Stanford last Sunday in Bloomington, Ind. The Lancers defeated Liberty, 2-1, on Tuesday. Longwood has won three consecutive games.
Â
LEAGUE OPENER
"We're excited that it's the first MAC game and that we got a full week of practice," CMU coach Catherine Ostoich said. "They're very good competition, but I think we've put in a lot of work this week so hopefully it pays off this weekend."
Â
While it is the conference opener, Ostoich said she has taken a steady approach.
Â
"It's another game where we have to show progression," she said. "We have got to make sure we are leaving this game taking steps forward as a team and not taking steps backwards."
Â
NEXT
CMU will play a nonleague game on Sunday, Sept. 16 (2 p.m.) at Michigan (3-3). The Wolverines are scheduled to play host to Rutgers on Friday in their Big Ten opener.
