ATHENS, Ohio -- The Central Michigan field hockey team dropped a 3-1 Mid-American Conference decision to Ohio on Sunday at the Bobcats' Pruitt Field.
Â
CMU slipped to 1-11, 0-2 MAC. Ohio is 4-4, 2-0.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ohio's Jillian Shive scored just under 8 minutes into the game and then the Bobcats went up 2-0 on a goal by Karynne Baker midway through the first half.
Â
Callie Quinn scored off a Kayla McClure assist with 5:26 to play, cutting the Chippewas' deficit in half. Less than two minutes later, the Bobcats restored their lead to two goals when Leah Warren scored.
Â
The Bobcats at 18 shots and five penalty corners. The Chippewas had four shots and two penalty corners.
Â
IN GOAL
Lily Amadio made 10 saves for the Chippewas.
Â
"She did really well, she was hung out to dry a lot, but she came up with some really great saves," CMU coach Catherine Ostoich said.
Â
COACH OSTOICH
"We just didn't come ready to play in that first 30 minutes. The first half, we did not play our style of hockey and we really gave them confidence going into the second half. We were ready to play in the second half. We had a great goal late and I thought 'OK, we're going to push and take the goalie out,' but we need to value the ball more. We don't value it as much right now.
Â
"We're just going to go back to focusing on the fact that we need to value possession, and we're definitely going to work on some game-related situations and scenarios and we have to value the ball. We have to do whatever it takes to value that ball."
Â
NEXT
The Chippewas will entertain Miami (Ohio) in a MAC game on Friday, Sept. 28 (4 p.m.) at the CMU Field Hockey Complex. Miami is 7-4, 2-0 MAC. The Redhawks defeated Kent State, 3-0, in a league contest on Saturday and then topped Indiana, 5-0, in a nonconference game on Sunday.
