MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Miami (Ohio) scored less than five minutes into the game in building a 3-0 halftime lead on Friday in handing Central Michigan a 5-0 loss in a Mid-American Conference field hockey game at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
Â
The Chippewas are 1-12 overall, 0-3 MAC. Miami, the defending league regular-season and tournament champion, improved to 8-4, 3-0, in winning its fifth consecutive game.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The RedHawks' Mariona Heras scored at the 4:24 mark and then Miami added two more goals before the midway point of the first half. Heras finished with two goals.
Â
The RedHawks outshot the Chippewas, 27-3, and finished with an 11-3 edge in penalty corners.
Â
Lily Amadio made 10 saves in goal for CMU.
Â
CMU COACH CATHERINE OSTOICH:
"I actually saw possession today, which is something I obviously have been harping on since the season started. There were some really good things we did today. We played them well and obviously we have a lot to improve on. But to be able to see a couple of the possession things we talked about in practice this week and we did them out there, it was awesome. I think it's given some rejuvenated spirit out there going forward and for the last four games of the season.
Â
"We have lot of things that we will be working on; we're really going to make the most out of our practices. We have a ton of time to practice so we are going to make sure we are pushing the tempo each day and we are practicing on the possession and everything we feel like we need to get us ready for Kent State."
Â
NEXT
The Chippewas are off until Sunday, Oct. 7 (11 a.m.), when they go to Kent State for MAC game. Kent State is 2-9, 0-1 and plays at Longwood in a league game on Sunday.
