Chippewas Sweep MAC Scholar Athlete Awards

Frost, Montgomery honored for on-court, classroom excellence
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan's Rob Montgomery and Reyna Frost have swept the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week Awards.
Montgomery, a junior from Montgomery Village, Md., turned in a pair of big games as the Chippewas opened the Mid-American Conference season with back-to-back wins, 84-77 at Miami (Ohio) and 88-86 in overtime at home against Akron.
Against the RedHawks, Montgomery scored 18 points and matched his career high with nine rebounds; against the Zips, he had a career-high 23 points on a 10-for-17 shooting performance. Among his 10 field goals were a career-high three 3-pointers in four attempts.
Montgomery, who transferred to CMU from Indian Hills (Iowa) Community College, is a communications major who carries a 3.30 grade point average. The Chippewas are 13-2 and play host to Bowling Green on Saturday (4:30 p.m.) in a MAC game.
Frost last week became the MAC's career leader in rebounds during the Chippewas' 94-71 victory over Akron at McGuirk Arena.
Frost scored a career-high 31 points to go with 10 rebounds in the contest, and followed up with a 23-point, 17-rebound performance on Wednesday in the Chippewas' 88-70 victory at previously unbeaten Ohio. The 17 rebounds was a season high.
Frost's double-double against the Bobcats was her eight consecutive and her 12th of the season. Frost, who hails from Reese, is a mathematics major who carries a 3.70 GPA.
The Chippewa women are 11-3 and play at Northern Illinois on Saturday (2 p.m.).
