Hudson, Austin Are January 'Achievers'

Senior guard have led their teams to a combined 26-6 start
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Central Michigan Athletics and PNC Bank are partnering to recognize the PNC Achievers Student-Athlete of the Month. Throughout the 2018-19 season, deserving Chippewa student-athletes will be recognized for displaying well-rounded achievement through leadership in the classroom, in the community, and in their athletic endeavors.
The honorees for January are senior Presley Hudson of the CMU women's basketball team, and Larry Austin of the men's basketball team.
Hudson, a 5-foot-6 guard from Wayland, carries a 3.72 grade point average and is a physical activity specialist major. She has been the linchpin of the women's basketball program, leading it to back-to-back Mid-American Conference regular-season championships, a MAC Tournament title, and a program-record 30 victories as the Chippewas made a run to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament in 2018.
Hudson has scored 1,960 points in her career and needs 47 to become the program's all-time scoring leader and has been a key component in the Chippewas' 12-3 start, including 3-0 in the MAC. CMU is ranked fourth in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 and is also receiving votes in both the Associated Press and USA Today/Women's Basketball Coaches Association polls.
Austin, a native of Springfield, Ill., has established himself as one of the MAC's top talents in his first year at CMU after transferring from Vanderbilt.
Austin, a 6-1 guard, ranks fourth in the MAC in scoring at 17.6 points per game. He leads an offense that is averaging a league-best 87.1 points per game and tops the league in assists per game (5.6). Austin earned a bachelor of science degree from Vanerbilt and is working toward his master of science in administration/leadership at CMU. He carries a 3.60 grade point average has twice earned the MAC West Player of the Week Award this season.
Both Hudson and Austin are actively involved in CMU's community service initiatives and Austin is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and a MAC Council of Student-Athletes member.
