CMU soccer home for its final three regular-season games
KENT, Ohio -- The Central Michigan soccer team finished its weekend of road Mid-American Conference games on Sunday with a 1-1 tie with Kent State at the Golden Flashes' Dix Stadium.
Â
CMU is 7-3-3, 4-3-1 MAC with 13 points in the league standings. Kent State is 5-7-3, 3-3-2 with 11 points.
Â
Sunday's game was the last road regular-season game for CMU. The Chippewas' final three games will be at the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
Â
How It Happened
CMU got on the board quickly with a goal in the fourth minute from Marle Bringard with an assist from Lauren DeBeau.
Â
The goal was Bringard's team-leading sixth of the season. It was DeBeau's first assist.
Â
Vital Kats scored Kent State's goal in the 31st minute on a free kick.
Â
"I thought this was one of the better performances we've had in terms of fight, effort, running, tackling, and traits like that," said CMU coach Jeremy Groves, who watched his team drop a 2-1 decision at Ohio on Friday. "We were on the front foot through the whole game. I'm pretty happy (with the result). The point is OK for us. This is a pretty tough place to play against an experienced team. We bounced back after not performing so well on Friday."
Â
Numbers
CMU had 15 shots on the day with 10 corner kicks, compared to Kent State's eight shots and four corner kicks.
Â
In Goal
In 110 minutes in net, CMU's Zoie Reed made three saves.
Â
Next
CMU will have a pair of home games next week, starting on Thursday, Oct. 24 (7 p.m.) with a pivotal game against Buffalo.
Â
Buffalo's overtime win over Western Michigan on Sunday put the Bulls in third place in the MAC with 15 points. CMU is tied with Western for fourth. The Chippewas entertain Akron on Sunday, Oct. 27.
