MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan field hockey team returns home for the first time in nearly three weeks when it entertains Appalachian State in a Mid-American Conference game on Friday (3 p.m.).
On Sunday, the Chippewas head to the west coast for a game with Cal (3-6), and then take on UC Davis (5-3) on Tuesday, Oct. 8. The CMU-Cal game carries a 6 p.m. start, while the Chippewas and Aggies begin at 1 p.m.
The Chippewas are 2-8, 0-2 MAC, while Appalachian State is 7-3, 0-2.

Both of the Chippewas' MAC losses have come by narrow margins, 1-0 to Longwood and 2-0 to Ball State.
CMU coach Catherine Ostoich said a conference win on Friday would go a long way for her team.
"That would be huge for us," she said. "I think we have to go in with a different mentality that we are going to fight this weekend and we're not going to stop and really apply the coaching points that we've been working on."
The Chippewas are midway through a season that began with two victories.
"We're at the midpoint of our season where we've either got to start to make changes or it's going to continue down this road," Ostoich said. "I think this game (Appalachian State) is huge, it's really important.
"They're very good competition so it's going to be a tough game. We definitely can stay in it if we play our hockey, but that's what's most important, that play our style of hockey."
While the trip to California is important, the focus heading into the weekend is on Friday's league matchup with the Mountaineers.
"It's a MAC game so it's nice that it's the first of the weekend so we can really focus everything on that," Ostoich said. "The two games that we play in California are awesome too, but they're not conference, and there's something about the conference versus the nonconference.
"It's really nice that we can start the weekend with our conference game and then, hopefully, build off the momentum to finish the weekend out strong."
Leaders
Several Chippewas are among the MAC statistical leaders. Freshman Alice O'Hagan is top 10 in the conference in shots, shots on goal, goals and points, while junior Taryn Damm is tied for fifth in the conference in assists.
CMU goalkeeper Abigail Ebersole leads the MAC in saves per game at 8.22.
