Chippewas begin to gear up for MAC Championships
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan indoor track & field team will split up this weekend for meets at Kent State and at Grand Valley State.
The Chippewa distance runners will compete in the Grand Valley Big Meet on Friday, while the remainder of the team, the sprinters and the field-event personnel, will compete on Saturday at the Doug Raymond Invitational at Kent State.

CMU director of track & field/cross country Jenny Swieton said that sending the distance runners to Grand Valley and the remainder of the squad to Kent State serves two purposes
The Mid-American Conference Championships are scheduled for Feb. 22-23 at Kent State Field House, and this weekend's event gives the Chippewas an opportunity to get acclimated to the facility and the environment. The Grand Valley Big Meet has scheduled distance races that will give the Chippewas a taste of elite competition.
"We're two weeks out from MACs and going to Kent State (this weekend) will put us in that frame of mind that it's about go time, and it will also help to get the jitters out," Swieton said. "I feel like it's not as crucial for the distance runners to see the (Kent State) track. It's a 300-meter track."

The Chippewas are scheduled to return to Grand Valley on Friday, Feb. 15, for the GVSU Tune-Up. It will be CMU's last competition ahead of the MAC Championships.
