Pedrick named gymnast of the week; Memmel earns specialist of the week honors
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Central Michigan swept the individual weekly Mid-American Conference gymnastics award.
CMU's Denelle Pedrick was named the MAC Gymnast of the Week, and teammate Skyler Memmel was named the Specialist of the Week for their performances in the Chippewas' nonconference dual meet at at No. 12 Kentucky on Friday.
Pedrick, a junior from Wilcox, Saskatchewan, posted a career-high 39.450 in the all-around and also scored a career-best-tying 9.850 on uneven parallel bars. She also scored 9.850 on vault, and posted 9.875 on both floor exercise and balance beam.
Pedrick's 39.450 was the highest all-around score for a MAC gymnast this season. It marks the fifth time in 2019 that Pedrick has been named the MAC Gymnast of the Week.
Memmel, a senior from Dousman, Wis. scored a career-best 9.900 on balance beam to lead the Chippewas. Memmel's 9.900 ties for the second-best beam score of the season for a MAC gymnast.
The Chippewas entertain Northern Illinois on Friday (7 p.m.) in a MAC dual at McGuirk Arena. A win gives CMU the outright MAC regular-season title, its second straight.
