Chippewas return to league play at home against Northern Illinois next weekend
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan softball team will take a break from Mid-American Conference play this weekend when it entertains Detroit Mercy in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday (1 p.m.) at Margo Jonker Stadium.
The Chippewas are 16-20-1 and last weekend swept Ohio in a three-game league series before losing midweek games to Michigan State and to Western Michigan, the latter a conference game. The loss to MSU ended CMU's season-long four-game win streak.

CMU senior first baseman Erika Underwood is hitting .414 with two home runs and nine RBI over the Chippewas' last 10 games. During that same span, senior second baseman Rachel Vieira is hitting .393 with three extra-base hits.
Senior center fielder Sara Hansen was named the MAC Player of the Week on Tuesday after hitting .571 with three doubles and two triples in five games last week.
CMU pitcher Kaitlyn Bean is 3-1 with a 3.28 earned run average and 23 strikeouts against 11 walks over 32 innings in CMU's 10 games.
THE TITANS
Detroit Mercy is 18-21 and has won four consecutive games and five of its last six. The Titans play in the Horizon League, and are in third place in the standings at 10-5.
The Titan pitching staff leads the Horizon League with a 3.26 ERA and six shutouts.
Senior catcher Jordan Manno leads Detroit's Mercy with a .355 batting average and 24 RBI. She shares the team lead in home runs (4) with Courtney Gilbert.
