Three Firsts As Chippewas Tune Up For MAC Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Three Central Michigan student-athletes had first-place finishes for the Chippewa track & field team on Friday at the Len Paddock Open at Michigan.

It was the final competition for the Chippewas before the Mid-American Conference Championships at Ball State in Muncie, Ind., next weekend.

CMU's wins on Friday came from Nadia Williams, women's long jump; Gabriella Beauvais, women's 200-meter dash; and Jack Dodge, men's 200-meter dash.

CMU FIRSTS
Williams won the women's long jump at 6.32 meters. Teammate Alexandria Robinson finished sixth at 5.58 meters; Beauvais won the women's 200 in 24.14 seconds, while teammate Samantha Cuneo placed fifth in 24.60; Dodge won the men's 200 in 21.48, while Jackson Blanchard placed fourth (22.30) and Gavin Jaime was sixth (22.83).

• Jeron Kelley, John Mitrzyk and Parker Aertz placed second, fifth, and seventh in the men's 100. Kelley's time was 10.84 seconds, Mitrzyk's finished in 10.99, and Aertz came in at 11.07.

• Avery Joseph and Ahmed Joseph placed third and fourth, respectively, in the men's javelin. Avery's throw was 57.72 meters, Ahmed's throw was 53.59 meters.

• Kevin Weiler placed third in the men's shot put at 16.91 meters.

• Emily Helfrich placed third in the women's high jump, 1.56 meters.

• Will Westveer (1:59.78) and Brett Hannah (2:00.54) placed fourth and sixth, respectively, in the men's 800.

• Marissa Dunn placed fourth in the women's hammer throw at 55.84 meters.

• Ryan Taylor placed fifth in the men's long jump, 5.79 meters.

• Connor Covert placed fifth in the men's hammer, 56.90 meters. Covert also placed sixth in the men's discus, 49.37 meters.

• Joseph Sehgi placed seventh and Shane Moffo eighth in the men's 110-meter hurdles. Sehgi's time was 15.00 seconds, Moffo's time was 15.27 seconds.

• Olivia Hankey placed seventh in the women's 400 hurdles, 1:08.01.

• Rebecca Herman placed eighth in the women's discus throw, 39.55 meters.

"I think everybody went out and competed well," CMU director of track & field Jenny Swieton said. "They didn't let the weather conditions get to them. We did what we needed to do, and I think we're ready to go (to the MAC Championships).

"I think it was fun for some of our student athletes to run different events than they normally do. Anytime you can keep it fun, that's good. It takes a little pressure off so they don't worry about times, they think about competing."
