Ebersole records season-high 16 saves
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan field hockey team put together a strong defensive showing on Sunday afternoon but eventually fell to No.11-ranked Michigan 3-0 inside the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
With the loss, the Chippewas slip to 2-5 on the season. Michigan improves to 4-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After the first quarter went scoreless, U-of-M got on the board at the 28:05 mark in the second on a goal from Fay Keijer.
CMU's Samantha Glapinski had a would-be goal find the net as time expired in the half, but it would eventually be waived off by the officials. Â
Michigan would put two more goals on the board from Kathryn Peterson and Meg Dowthwaite in the second half.
CMU had three shots, two of them from Glapinski and one from Georgina Minta. Both had shots on goal. Michigan had 31 shots (19 on goal).
Abigail Ebersole had a season-high 16 saves on the day allowing just three goals while compiling a .842 save percentage. Â
"I thought we played really well defensively," CMU coach Catherine Ostoich said. "We got together before the game and said, 'we need play a lot harder on defense, we need to be resilient and diligent.' There was a couple of slip ups and a couple of times we could have possessed the ball better but defensively, we stuck with our game plan and I think we did a good job."
NEXT
CMU will play in its first Mid-American Conference game of the season and travel to Farmville, Va. against Longwood on Friday, Sept. 20 (4 p.m.). They will travel to Loretto, Pa. to play a non-conference game against Saint Francis on Sunday, Sept. 22 (noon).
