MUNCIE, Ind. – The Central Michigan field hockey team fell to Ball State, 2-0, on Saturday in a Mid-American Conference game at the Cardinals' Briner Sports Complex.
How It Happened
Ball State got a goal late in the first quarter and then added an insurance goal midway through the third. The Cardinals outshot the Chippewas, 11-7.
"We attacked for the first 10 minutes of the game, and just couldn't get anything from it," CMU coach Catherine Ostoich said. "We were in the 25 for the first 10 minutes and just couldn't get a shot, couldn't get a foul, so we've just got to value the ball."
Abigail Ebersole made four saves in goal for the Chippewas.
Scoring Punch
The Chippewas slipped to 2-8, 0-2 MAC.
"We have to want it," Ostoich said. "We've got to want to do anything possible to make sure we get a touch on that ball. It's that desire, that want, to go do it ourselves."
After scoring a combined 10 goals in their first four games, the Chippewas have struggled of late finding the back of the net.
"Everywhere across the field, we've got to value the ball," Ostoich said. "We've got to take advantage of our opportunities."
Next
The Chippewas entertain Appalachian State in a MAC game on Friday, Oct. 4 (3 p.m.). They will then head to California for a two-game road trip during which they will play Cal and UC Davis.
