MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan wrestling team returns to the mat this weekend when it entertains two Mid-American Conference foes in dual meets at McGuirk Arena.
The Chippewas, who are 2-3 overall and 2-1 in MAC duals, welcome 23rd-ranked Missouri on Friday (7 p.m.) and then SIU-Edwardsville on Sunday (2 p.m.).
Last Time Out
The Chippewas dropped two duals two weeks ago, falling to No. 5 Virginia Tech at home, 20-16, and then bowing to Northern Illinois, 19-12, in a MAC dual in DeKalb, Ill.
The Chippewas won four of 10 matches, one of them by pin, against the Hokies and, despite the loss, there was an optimistic feel around the Chippewas in light of the fact that they had put on a strong showing against the No. 5 team in the nation.
But CMU did not wrestle well, coach Tom Borrelli said, in the loss two days later in DeKalb, Ill.
The Chippewas went into the weekend were ranked 24th nationally, but the two losses left them unranked.
"They should be hungry and it's a home match, they're going to be excited for that," Borrelli said of his wrestlers. "It's quality competition. It's a challenge for us and we've got to rise to the challenge.
"I think I'm happy with the way they're training, I'm happy with the attitude. I'm happy with seeing improvements here and there, but that doesn't mean we can't all do better."
