COLUMBUS, Ohio – Denelle Pedrick won the all-around and earned the meet Most Valuable Performer Award on Saturday to lead the Central Michigan gymnastics team at a nonconference tri-meet at Ohio State's Covelli Center.
Pedrick, a senior, posted a 39.375 score, winning the all-around for the second-consecutive meet. She was first in the Chippewas' dual-meet win last weekend at Eastern Michigan.
"Denelle showed great maturity and competitiveness and again put up a great all-around score," CMU coach Christine MacDonald said. "She anchors all of our events and did so knowing her score really mattered and she kept us going in the right direction.
"An overall really solid day for her."
The Chippewas posted a 194.325 team score to finish third behind first-place Ohio State (195.500) and Maryland (195.250).
Pedrick finished second on the balance beam with a 9.875, tied for third on the floor exercise (9.825), tied for fifth on uneven parallel bars (9.850), and tied for sixth on vault (9.825).
Pedrick was the top Chippewa finisher on bars, beam and floor. Freshman Hannah Demers led the Chippewas on the vault as she tied for fourth with a 9.850 score.
"Definitely felt the team did a really good job of trying to stay in the moment one routine at a time," MacDonald said. "We had some uncharacteristic mistakes early on, and we did a good job of refocusing and re-centering ourselves when we had to.
"We had a lot of learning moments today physically and mentally, and from that we'll get stronger. Every individual had a lot of highlights. Lot of positives that we can take away and we'll continue to collectively work as a team, making sure we're putting our best foot forward as we go on."
MacDonald lauded the performance of freshman Savana Kotas, who competed in exhibition on beam and posted a solid 9.825 on bars in the final rotation of the meet.
"Savana Kotas did an outstanding job," MacDonald said. "She started us off on bars. She really found her rhythm after having a mistake last weekend and coming in and really hitting this week."
The Chippewas, who are 3-2 overall, 1-0 Mid-American Conference, return to league competition with a dual meet at Northern Illinois on Sunday, Feb. 2 (2 p.m.).
