Chippewa Gymnasts Resume MAC Competition

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan gymnastics team returns to Mid-American Conference competition on Sunday when it goes to Northern Illinois for a dual in the Huskies' Convocation Center.
The Chippewas last weekend finished third in a nonconference tri-meet at Michigan State along with Maryland. CMU is 3-2, 1-0 MAC and is averaging 195.033, which is 27th nationally.
"Every weekend we've gotten better, we've made improvements," CMU coach Christine MacDonald said. "We're looking forward to getting back to dual-meet competition. Two great teams, strong competition as it will be for the rest of the year. We're looking to continue to improve and that's where the focus has been this week."
The Chippewas are the defending MAC regular-season champions. NIU finished first last season at the MAC Championships, edging the second-place Chippewas by four-10ths of a point.
CMU's top event is vault. The Chippewas are averaging 49.033 in the event and ranks 16th nationally. The Chippewas are 32nd on bars, 33rd on floor and 34th on beam.
NIU is averaging 193.117 and ranks 47th nationally.
