CMU faces quick turnaround with game on Thursday at Miami
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Toledo used a 13-2 second-half run on Tuesday in handing Central Michigan a 93-81 Mid-American Conference men's basketball loss at McGuirk Arena.
The loss, CMU's sixth straight, left the Chippewas 13-14, 6-8 MAC. CMU faces a quick turnaround when it goes to Miami (Ohio) on Thursday, Feb. 27 (7 p.m.). The Chippewas are scheduled to play at Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Feb. 29 (noon).
Toledo is 14-14, 6-9.
How It Happened
The Rockets led, 70-68, and then went on a 13-2 spurt from the nine-minute mark until the five-minute mark to extend their lead to 83-70. The Chippewas never got closer than eight points the rest of the way.
"They came into our gym and outplayed us," CMU senior David DiLeo said. "It's unfortunate, that's not where we want to be, but that's the truth. They executed their game plan better (than we did). It's not the result we wanted but we've got to watch film, have a quick turnaround with our game on Thursday. … Learn from it and continue to move forward."
Marreon Jackson scored a career high 37 points to lead the Rockets. He made seven of his nine 3-point attempts.
"We were trying to pressure him," CMU coach Keno Davis said. "He's such a great player that it's not just the 3-pointers, but he's able to handle the ball and (he's) able to break you down.
"He made some great plays. Some of it is some things we can do better, to not foul or to keep him in front (of us). When watching the tape, it'll be more revealing as to how much of it was great plays by him and how much of it are things we can do to improve."
Team Stats
Both teams shot the ball well. CMU made 42.9 percent of its 3-point attempts. The Rockets finished 63.2 percent from the floor overall and made 57.4 percent of their triple tries. Both numbers were Toledo season highs.
The Rockets also hit 19 of their 20 free throw attempts and finished with a 37-27 rebounding advantage.
Individual Leaders
DiLeo and Rob Montgomery scored 19 points apiece to lead the Chippewas. DiLeo made five of his six 3-point attempts.
Devontae Lane added 18 points, while Kevin McKay had 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Chippewas.
