Chippewa Men Go To Kent State On Saturday

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan men's basketball team heads to Kent State on Saturday (4 p.m.) for a Mid-American Conference game with the Golden Flashes.
It will be CMU's first game in a week after its game scheduled for Tuesday at Buffalo was postponed. The Chippewas are 6-9, 2-6 MAC; Kent State is 8-4, 5-3.
Saturday's game is the third-consecutive away from home from CMU, which is scheduled to entertain Ohio on Tuesday, Feb. 2.
Leaders
Senior Travon Broadway Jr. and junior Meikkel Murray have emerged as the Chippewas' top two scorers.
Broadway ranks sixth in the MAC in scoring at 17.5 points per game, while Murray is averaging 14.2.
Malik Muhammad, a 6-9 junior, has stepped to the forefront as a force in the post for CMU. He leads the team in rebounds at 7.1 per game and has reached double digits in boards in four of his last six games. He is averaging 8.5 rebounds per game over that span.
Last Time Out
The Chippewas fell at Akron, 81-67, as the Zips used an 11-0 run spanning the end of the first half and the start of the second to build an 11-point lead. Murray scored a career-high 23 points in leading CMU.
Rematch
The Chippewas fell to the Golden Flashes, 94-85, at McGuirk Arena on Jan. 12. The Golden Flashes used a 10-0 run with under five minutes to play to break a 76-76 tie and pull away.
Muhammad posted his first double-double as a Chippewa in the game with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Muhammad was one of five Chippewas to score in double figures.
Danny Pippen, a 6-9 senior, scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Kent State in that game, while senior guard Michael Nuga added 18 points.

The Golden Flashes' game at Ball State, scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed.
Kent State is second in the MAC in scoring, averaging 82.3 points per game. The Golden Flashes are holding opponents to an average of 72.3 points per game, and they rank fifth in the conference in that category.
Kent State is second in the league in rebounds per game (40.9) and is outrebounding its opponents by a league-best 8.2-per-game average.
