MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Central Michigan volleyball team fell in four sets on Friday to Ball State in a Mid-American Conference match.
Â
The Chippewas, who fell in four sets in Thursday's series opener, are 11-16, 5-10 MAC. Ball State ran its win streak to 14, improving to 24-3, 14-1.
Â
CMU is set to host Toledo at McGuirk Arena on Friday, Nov. 12 (6 p.m.). The Rockets are 8-6 in the MAC after taking a 3-0 victory over Eastern Michigan on Friday. The Chippewas and Rockets are scheduled to play on Saturday, Nov. 13 (4 p.m.).
Â
Lisbeth Rosario-Martinez led CMU with 14 kills on 21 attacks for a .524 hitting percentage, her third best of the season. She also had four blocks.
Â
Anna Erickson added 13 kills for CMU, while Chippewa setters Grace Butler and Kendall Braate finished with 21 and 20 assists, respectively. Libero Aly Gurtiza contributed 20 digs.
Â
The Chippewas struggled to handle the Cardinals' offense right out of the gate on Friday but managed to piece points together and even it at 15-all in the first set. But Ball State stepped on the gas, scoring seven of the next eight points to take charge at 22-16.
Â
The teams exchanged the lead frequently early in set two before the Chippewas went on a run to take a 10-6 advantage and force a Ball State timeout. Just as in the first set, the teams were tied at 15-all, but this time it was CMU with the momentum to push forward and take the set, 25-19.
Â
The Chippewas continued to struggle against the Cardinals' offense in sets three and four and succumbed, 25-18 in the third, and 25-17 in the fourth.
