Chippewa Men Return Home To Face Ohio

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan men's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of McGuirk Arena on Tuesday for its first home game in more than two weeks as the Chippewas entertain Ohio in a Mid-American Conference game. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
The Chippewas are 6-10, 2-7 MAC and coming off a stretch of three-consecutive road games as they fell to league-leading Toledo, second-place Akron, and third-place Kent State.
Ohio, 10-6 overall, is 6-4 in the MAC and sits in fifth place. The Bobcats have won their last three games, the third of which came last Friday at Buffalo, 76-75.
Last Time Out
The Chippewas hung tough at Kent State before bowing, 83-76. The Chippewas got a double-double from junior Meikkel Murray and a career-high 23 points from Caleb Huffman in the loss.
Murray posted career bests in both points (26) and rebounds (12) as he continued his emergence as a force for CMU. It marked his second double-double in three games and he is averaging 23.8 points and 8.3 rebounds in that three-game stretch. He has scored in double figures in 13 consecutive games.
Leaders
Senior Travon Broadway Jr. continues to lead the Chippewas in scoring, and ranks seventh in the league, at 16.7 points per game. Murray is averaging 14.9 per game while Huffman stands at 11.3.
In MAC games, Murray is averaging 18.4 points per game, ranking fifth in the conference.
Malik Muhammad, a 6-foot-9 junior, leads CMU in rebounding at 6.9 per, while Murray is averaging 6.3. Muhammad is second in the league with 1.42 blocks per game and ranks third with 2.83 offensive rebounds per game.
Numbers
Muhammad leads a strong offensive-rebounding effort by CMU. The Chippewas average 12.31 offensive boards per game, ranking third in the league in that category.
The Chippewas are second in the conference and 24th nationally in steals per game (8.69). Guard Devontae Lane and Broadway are CMU's top swipers with 20 and 18 steals, respectively.
Scouting
All five of the Bobcats' probable starters average in double figures in scoring, led by junior guard Jason Preston (16.4), who was selected to the All-MAC Preseason First Team. Dwight Wilson III, a 6-8 senior, is second on the team in scoring at 15.7 points per game and is Ohio's leading rebounder (7.4 per game).
Preston ranks eighth in the league in scoring, while Wilson is seventh in rebounding, 10th in scoring, and second in field goal percentage (.679).
Ohio leads the MAC with a .482 shooting percentage and ranks third in 3-point field goal percentage (.354).
