Golfers Finish 3rd At Nevel Meade Collegiate

PROSPECT, Ky. – The Central Michigan golf team shot a final-round 306 on Tuesday to finish with a 908 team total and in third place in the 11-team Nevel Meade Collegiate at Nevel Meade Golf Course.
Two Chippewas recorded top-10 finishes and two others finished among a group tied for 14th as CMU posted another solid finish in the 2021 season. The Chippewas finished fifth in the season-opening Mid-American Conference Challenge and then won two match-play events heading into the Nevel Meade.
CMU's 908 ranks as the third best 54-hole score in program history.
CMU's Padgett Chitty shot a 3-over 75 to finish at 8-over 224 and in eighth place; teammate Zoe Vartyan posted a 6-over 78 for a 10-over 226 total and a ninth-place finish; and Meghan Deardorff shot 78 to finish at 14-over 230 and among a group tied for 14th.
Also in that group at 230 was CMU's Jami Laude, who shot a final-round 78 while playing unattached.
Chippewa freshman Rachel Kauflin shot her best round of the tournament, a 3-over 75, on Tuesday to finish with a 237 total and in 31st place. Kauflin matched Chitty for the low round of the day by a Chippewa.
The Chippewas' Ashley Goh, battling a back injury, struggled to an 87 to finish at 240 and among a group tied for 38th.
Day-1 leader Youngstown State shot 302 on Tuesday to win the tournament with a 27-over 891 total. Oakland shot 297 on Tuesday to overtake the Chippewas and finish in second with a 39-over 903.
Amalia Shahzan of Oakland closed with an even-par 72 to finish at 1-over 216 to capture medalist honors. She finished one shot ahead of teammate Veronica Haque and Youngstown State's Puthita Khuanrudee.
