First-Place Baseball Team Heads To Akron For 4

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan baseball team heads to Akron this weekend for a four-game Mid-American Conference series at the Zips' Skeeles Field.
The Chippewas took three of four games from Kent State last weekend, improving to 20-11, 12-4 MAC. They share the conference lead with Ball State.
Akron is 9-21, 3-17. The Zips have lost 18-consecutive games.
The opener is set for 3 p.m. on Friday; the teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday (noon) and close the series on Sunday (noon).
Earlier this week, CMU's Zach Heeke was named the MAC co-Player of the Week and Jordan Patty was named the MAC Pitcher of the Week for their performances last weekend against the Flashes.
Patty, CMU's Friday starter, has not allowed a run in 25 2/3 innings. Heeke had nine hits including a home run in 13 at-bats in the series, raising his batting average to .333, which ranks second on the team.
The Chippewas are tied with Toledo and Kent State as the MAC's best-hitting team. Each has a .276 team batting average. The Chippewas are second in the league with a 3.75 team earned run average.
CMU has drawn 195 walks this season and are tied for seventh in the nation in that category and the Chippewas' .419 on-base percentage is fifth best in the country.
Akron ranks seventh in the conference in hitting (.263) and ninth in ERA (6.77).
