LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Central Michigan track & field team won two relay events and Marissa Dunn led a strong showing in the hammer throw in the Louisville Invitational at Cardinal Track Stadium.
The Chippewas won the 4x100-meter relay (47.98 seconds) and the 4x400 relay (3:53.45). Taylor Korytkowski, Kaitlynn Rush, Sarah Daniel and Jericha Petrella teamed up to win the 4x100; Taylor Korytkowski, Emma Fountain, Peyton Korytkowski and Petrella combined to win the 4x400.
Dunn placed second in the hammer throw with a toss measuring 55.87 meters as three Chippewas recorded top-eight finishes in the event. Maya Bennett (53.80) was fourth and Mohogany Wells (47.80) was eighth. Bennett's throw was a personal best.
"Across the board, we competed pretty well," CMU coach Jenny Swieton said. "It was a difficult meet, but in a really good way. We had some really good performances considering the conditions and some people had an off day, but that's pretty typical.
"No matter what happened, we're learning from it and getting better. We're pretty happy with where we ended up. We're not where we want to eventually be, but it's still early."
CMU's Emma Francis and Anna Laurenz finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 400 hurdles. Francis finished in 1:04.00; Laurenz in 1:04.21.
CMU's Kasey Staley finished third in the pole vault (3.97 meters) and Sarah Griffin (3.27) was sixth while Sarah Daniel finished fourth in the long jump (5.81).
"(Staley) made a couple attempts at the school record again," Swieton said. "She's consistently jumping high and going at that school record. Sarah Daniel in the long jump was huge, she had a big PR."
CMU got fifth-place finishes from Taylor Korytkowski (12.24 seconds) in the 100-meter dash; from Peyton Korytkowski (14.44) in the 100 hurdles; Lauren Beckmann (4:42.32) in the 1500-meter run; and Erin Howard (48.84 meters) in the discus.
Howard also posted a sixth-place finish in the shot put (14.68 meters). The Chippewas also got sixth-place finishes from Olivia Hankey (15.18 seconds) in the 100-meter hurdles; from Emma Fountain (2:16.51) in the 800-meter run; and Anya Turner (4:44.99) in the 1500-meter run.
Peyton Korytkowski finished seventh in the 200-meter dash (25.43) and CMU got eighth-place finishes from Madi Mandelke in the 800 (2:17.17), Morgan Merlino in the 1500 (4:49.85); and Ashlyn Nagel in the 3000 (10:30.13).
